UNDERSTANDING PHENYLKETONURIA (PKU)

Phenylketonuria phenylketonuria is a rare inherited disease. It impacts the individual's ability to process an amino acid called phenylalanine. Frequently, the liver makes an enzyme designated as phenylalanine hydroxylase, which converts phenylalanine into tyrosine. In individuals with PKU, this enzyme lacks function properly. As a result, phenylal
